Please dont take this the wrong way though, I'm just trying to explain how this stuff works. The two biggest being that you are causing extra battery drain and data transfer (potentially getting you closer to a cap).
I know you guys are happy with it and seeing some improvements with it, but you are causing other problems with your devices by cleaning the cache. Data IO, especially internet IO is considered an "expensive" task in that it costs precious time and resources. And as of Gingerbread the cache is usually store on the SD. This isnt meant to sound like I'm lecturing or anything but believe me, as a software dev, cache is one of the greatest performance increases any app can have. It becomes an extra chore for the system to be bumping up against those low memory situations. Ideally, you never want to be that close to the limit, which is why the phone warns you way before it is actually out of memory.
Your issue was just that you were low on memory but that wasnt the fault of cache, you had too many apps installed. Browser cache speeds loading times immensely.
